Another Collaboration Complete

Pop Pups - photo by Sharon
The small quilt group that I am a member of finished this charity auction quilt and I just love how the wrapped facing finish that Sharon used rather than a typical binding adds to the design.  Just like on Pup Art, doing FMQ on so many colors was intimidating for me, especially the yellow and black where the contrast is intense.

Scrap Strategies Workshop

I love scraps and I'm a fan and follower of quilter/teacher Claire Witherspoon who blogs at Confessions of an Eclectic Quilter so I was thrilled to attend her Scrap Strategies workshop.   Here's a picture my bits on the design wall at class.

Life got in the way of my plans to listen to her speak at our local quilt guild so I soaked up what I could during her presentation and mini trunk show.  Claire takes scraps to the next level saving, sorting and using strings and crumbs.

The possibilities of what can be created from scraps many toss in the trash has always sucked me in and it was comforting to have someone "get it".  My sewing room would be overrun (even more so) if I did the same so it is only self preservation that keeps me from copying her.

I also consider myself a contradictorist when it comes to my quilting. How about you?

  1. Hey Karen, The 'Pups' quilt came out great and I really like the wrapped edge technique too! Some people say French bindings = doubled over / sewn on bindings are the only way to go 'cause of the durability etc. But I've finished lots of quilts with a wrapped edge and they seem to be holding up just fine. And I like the look of them too!
Thanks for the kind words about my class! I really had a great time and was so impressed with everyones work! I love the colors and prints you chose for your scrappy units! You are off to a great start! cheers, Claire W.
